Dear Mr. Boss:
This letter is in response to the wastewater treatment plant violation that was received
on February 21, 2024. We have reviewed the violation with our operator Dale Wike,
ORC, and please see our following response.
Limit Exceedance Violation
BOD Weekly Average Exceeded
BOD Monthly Average Exceeded
Bryson City WWTP had a Limit Exceedance Violation for a BOD Weekly Average from
a sample that was collected on 10/25/23.
The BOD Weekly Average Exceedance caused the BOD Monthly Average Exceedance.

Mr. Wike feels the following contributed to the exceedance:
• During his operational check, he found a failed airline coupling in the Motor/
Blower room.
• This caused the Dissolved Oxygen to drop in the Aeration Basins.
• The airline coupling was repaired as soon as he found it to be leaking.
The ORC also noted that that the Influent BOD samples that were collected on the
same day were higher than normal.
Samples following this returned to normal levels.
