Lincolnton WWTP NPDES Permit NCO025496 Lincoln County DWR-WQROS staff have inspected the Lincolnton WWTP and are aware of the emergency situation with regard to their clarifiers at the plant. One of the two clarifiers is structurally unsound and inoperable, leaving Lincolnton with only one remaining in operation and no redundancy in case of needed repairs to the system. These clarifiers are essential elements of the treatment process and failure could result in wastewater discharges to the South Fork Catawba River, a class WS-IV (Water Supply IV) waterway in the Catawba Basin. Additionally, two return activated sludge pumps (RAS) are antiquated and in need of replacement. WQROS supports an emergency loan to Lincolnton to resolve these matters and return the WWTP to full functionality to protect water resources and prevent an imminent potential public health hazard. Should you need additional information regarding the matter, feel free to contact me (Andrew. Pitner0deq.nc.gov) or Wes Bell, (Wes.BellOdeq.nc.gov), MRO's NPDES inspector for the facility.
