Cascades had 1 ORC and 1 Backup ORC. Karen Bellamy ORC and Brandt Steele -Backup. Jacob Groth left Cascades the beginning of 2023. Brandt Steele and Jacob Groth both completed the necessary field inspections in 2023.We have Two to three employees that will be attending NC State University Training in 2024 and will take the exam shortly after. Karen Bellamy will be retiring Jan 31,2024. Michael Hurst will be handling the taking over the Environmental Position on Feb1,2024. Brandt Steele will be the Temporary ORC until one of our personally completes the training and test. Field Inspections where conducted, equipment calibration, PM work on equipment and ORC and backup ORC performed required inspections for the year. Karen Bellamy attended Rural Water Association Training in 2023 for our Continuing Education Contact Hours. Dr. Elwood Black continues to work closely with our land application Program. Advanced Residuals had one incident in 2023. Truck turned over in Laurinburg. The State was notified, and pictures and letter sent. 2023- Challenging year difficulty getting parts for equipment and heavy rains have also been an issue. Cascades and Advanced Residuals have worked hard to make sure we have a good program that is Environmentally Friendly and benefits the farmers. We have gotten a lot of positive feedback from farmers. Bill Young is the Project Manager for Advanced Residuals project at Cascades. Bill Young has worked as Project Manager several years ago and is back as project manger again. Pathogen and Vector Reduction aren't required on by our Permit. Several of the heavy metals have also been removed from our permit since levels have been extremely low for over 12 years. We also have testing performed by Department of Agronomics, so the farmers can have access to information. These statements are based on information reported by Advanced Residuals Management. Elwood Black, Ph. D.-Soils Date 1/31/2024 Subject: PAN calculation The Plant Available Nitrogen (PAN) calculation is widely used to estimate the N that will be available to a crop from the biosolids. The carbon to nitrogen ratio in biosolids is commonly less than 20:1 and net mineralization of N from the biosolids occurs. The mineralization's refers to the transformation of organic N to inorganic N which is in a plant available form. For materials with a C:N of less than 20:1 the PAN provides a good estimate of the N that may be available to the plant. However for materials like the Cascades soil additive, which have a C:N greater than 30:1, the PAN calculation is not appropriate. Instead of mineralization, N immobilization occurs. For crop production, immobilization is a loss of plant available N. As a result farmers need to apply additional N to offset the N that will be immobilized as the soil microorganisms assimilate the fiber. The PAN should be 0. The above referenced project has been analyzed per your instructions. The analyses were performed in accordance with the applicable analytical method. Sub -contracted testing is noted on the Sample Summary Table if applicable. The analytical data has been validated using standard quality control measures performed as required by the analytical method. Quality Assurance, method validations, instrumentation maintenance and calibration for all parameters (NELAP and non-NELAP) were performed in accordance with guidelines established by the USEPA (including 40 CFR 136 Method Update Rule May 2012) and NELAC unless otherwise indicated. Certain parameters (chlorine, pH, dissolved oxygen, sulfite...) are required to be analyzed within 15 minutes of sampling. Usually, but not always, any field parameter analyzed at the laboratory is outside of this holding time. Refer to sample analysis time for confirmation of holding time compliance. The results are shown on the attached Report of Analysis(s). Results for solid matrices are reported on an as - received basis unless otherwise indicated.
