Inspection Summary:
A routine compliance inspection of the Town of Maple Hill's wastewater treatment facility was conducted on February20,
2024. The purpose of the evaluation was to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and
limitations specified in Non -Discharge Permit W00035049. Chris Pickett, the ORC was present during the inspection.
The 42,000 GPD wastewater treatment and spray irrigation facility consists of:
46,076 gallon equalization basin
two 8,078 gallon aeration basins with rotating mixers
two 5,013 gallon clarifiers
two ultraviolet disinfection units
3,063 gallon aerobic digester
5.6 million gallon synthetically lined storage lagoon
19.01 acre spray irrigation area
The treatment facility is well maintained. The average flow received from the Septic Tank Effluent Pump (STEP) collection
system is approximately 9,000 gpd. Dog food continues to be used as a carbon source because of low BOD in the influent.
It is recommended to evaluate alternate sources of carbon as dog food can cause problems with oil & grease and solids in
the treatment process. Some commonly used sources of external carbon include methanol, glycerol, molasses sugar water
and proprietary formulations like MicroCTM.
The facility is deemed compliant with the Non -Discharge Permit WQ0035049. Please review the comment sections of the
inspection report for additional details and items to address.
