DATE: November 2, 2015 RE: Monitoring and Closeout Request for Norwood Gainey Site (G) (EEP IMS #628) The Norwood Gainey Site is located in Wayne County in the Neuse 03020202 Catalog Unit. The total acreage of planted stems is 2,033,768 square feet (46.69 acres). The total fee simple property measures 58.384 acres. The area of existing vegetation measures 1.2 acres. During the 10/27/2014 closeout visit, you requested 6.69 acres to be monitored for an additional two years: 2015 and 2016 growing seasons. DMS staff collected baseline vegetation data on 11/4/2014, using stocking level protocol to identify species composition and stem densities for the acreage monitored. DMS staff collected vegetation data for the 2015 annual monitoring on October 8, 2015. Please find attached a map depicting the six fixed circle plot locations within the acreage monitored, and the 2015 annual monitoring vegetation data. The acreage monitored contains 405 planted stems per acre (an increase from 377 planted stems per acre in 2014), and 580 total stems per acre (an increase from 519 stems total per acre in 2014). The total stems includes volunteers red maple, river birch, tulip poplar, sweet gum, and most notably loblolly and persimmon. The final annual monitoring data will be collected during the 2016 growing seasons and be provided to DWR with a closeout request. CVS protocol (including height, vigor, etc) was deemed not necessary during the DWR closeout site visit with Katie Merritt on Oct. 29, 2014. Annual data collection methods for fixed circle plots were collected on October 8, 2015, as follows: Six random plot locations were chosen within the acreage monitored. The center of each plot is monumented by a PVC pole. A fixed line radius measuring 18.5 feet was pulled from the plot center. The plot size measures 0.0247 acres. Walking in a clockwise direction, all planted and volunteer species were identified, flagged with pink tape, and logged. 405 avg. planted; 580 avg. Total
