The attached Pre-Construction Notifcation (PCN} Far� is to request a NaCionwide 35 Permit to
dredge a portion pf the ald North Carolina Fer�y Divisi.o►a "Short Rc�ute" cliannel that travels from
Qcracoke island to Hatteras Island. `I'his area of the state chan�le[ is on the �cra�oke side af the
Hatteras Inlet. The NCDOT Ferry Division is requesting �uthorization to perform mainte�ance
dredgi�a�; to allow the safe passage of public and private fishing vessels as tl�ey travel thrau�h the
Hat�eras Inlet. Based upon recexxt suz veys it is estimated that approximately 72,988 cubic yards of
�naterial needs ta be removed. Dredging o}�erations will be coznpieted by the NCDOT kerry
Dzvisioi� -�redge Carolina, this is a�ipeline c�redge. Dredging in this same vicinity was cort�pleted
in 2014.
On September 1, 20 � 5 an Individual Perm.�t (1P) was submitted by the NCDOT Ferry Division
requ.esting authorization to perform dredgin� activ�ties near the same a�'ea but with a sic�e cast
dredge utilized by US Army Carp af Engineexs. At this time the Ferry Divisi.o�a wouid like to repeal
fhis IP froin the permitting process and move foa'ward with obtaining authorization for tlle
described wark �.n the PCN.
