HomeMy WebLinkAboutNC0024252_Industrial Waste Survey Summary_20240227City of Conover February 24, 2024 Keyes McGee Pretreatment Oversight 1617 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699 Subject: Industrial Waste Survey Summary Dear Mr. Mcgee: RECEIVED FEB 27 2024 NCDEQ/DWR/NPDES The City of Conover is required by NPDES permit Part IV, C, 2 and 15A NCAC 2H .0905 to implement on- going waste survey activities and submit a summary of these activities every 5 years. The City uses the following methods for implementing the continuous survey requirements and staying aware of new, or changed, users. 1. NC Manufacturers Register 2. Water billing records 3. Any new industry has to go through planning review. Public Utilities Director is on that committee and informs the pretreatment coordinator of any new sources 4. Site inspections based on the discretion of the pretreatment coordinator of any industries or significant domestic contributors that may or may not contribute to the sewer any significant wastewater that could potentially have an impact on the operation of the POTW On -going survey activities: Currently the City is in the process of building policies and guidance to identify any current sources as well as new sources. One industry (Hickory Springs Mfg.) has since February of 2023 stopped discharging to the sewer system. Potentially dropping them from a CIU to a NSCIU. Long forms are being sent to multiple industries that may be SIU's. These industries are listed in the IWS submittal table and are identifiable as "long form sent" under the "Why SIU permit isn't needed" column. All industries sent short form surveys are listed on the submittal table. The submittal table is attached. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
