The applicant proposes to build three fords and install one culvert t on ua ria ed tfib utaf ies to Cascade Creep in Stokes County. Wehave noserious concerns about the project. The project should not affect trout and the trout moratorium does not need to be observed. However, this is just upstf earn of the Dan River Aquatic Habitat, a natural area rated Very High by the NC Natural Heritage Program due to the f ichriess of rare aquatic species it contains. Species in the vicinity of the project include the James River Spinymussel [Plcitrobcma collina, US Endangered (E), NC E], Ofarigefin Madtom [Notitrits gillicyti, US Federal Species of Concern (FSC), NC E], Bigeye Jumpfock (Moxostoma ariommum, NC Threatened), Notched Rainbow [Villosa constricta, NC Special Concern (SQ, Rivefweed Darter (Ethcostoma podostmionc, NC SQ, and Roanoke Hog Sucker (Irypcntcliilm roanokcnsc, NC Significantly Rafe). We offer the following recommendation to minimize impacts to aquatic wildlife: Be vigilant with sediment and erosion control d ufing site staging, construction, and cleanup. Dist uf bed areas should be seeded, mulched arid/of matted as soon as possible, pf efef ably at the end of each work day; at a minimum, disturbed areas should be stabilized within five working days of seven calendar days, whichever is shorter. Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on this project. Please contact me if you have any questions about these comments of need further assistance.
