Sarah The Town of Mount Olive reported a sewer spill in the amount of 4,000 gallons on 1/10/2023 reaching surface waters. Two 8 inch pumps where rebuilt on January 2, 2023. This repair cost around $14,500.00. The staff of the wastewater plant made an effort to ensure equipment was in good operating order. Parts have been ordered to upgrade 1 pump and have backup parts on hand for repairs. The cost of the pump and parts are $24,500 plus shipping see attached order. The spill reported was caused by a power outage and equipment failure. Wind gust caused power to flicker and completely fail. The generator failed to start I had tech come inspect the generator and transfer switch no problems found. The battery backup on the SCADA system was check and showed to be weak. This could be the reason no alarm was sent the battery pack has also been replaced at a cost of $275.00. A total of just over $39,000.00 was spent to correct problems in the past month. I am requesting the Town of Mount Olive not be fined the stipulated penalty of $5,000.00. The funds would be helpful in repairing more pumps and equipment in the system. Glenn Holland 1
