The original plans submitted for 404/401 permitting showed previously planned placement of riverbed material in
the left portion of the pool downstream of the dam. Based on feedback from the onsite meeting conducted in
January, we have amended the plans to eliminate any placed fill from this area, and more broadly from any portion
of the pool below the dam due to the resource concerns provided by NCWRC. We will add notes to require the
coordination and contingency e?orts for locating and relocating hellbenders from the work area or work area
vicinity both in advance of construction and on an as-needed basis during construction. I can furnish revised plans
later this week that show that no fill is proposed for the area indicated in the NCWRC letter. We anticipate that we
will continue any required plan updates to address DEMLR comments on trout bu?er waiver and ESC permit
requests over the upcoming weeks.
Let me know if you’d like a more formal response to this matter and if you do not require an updated copy of the
plans at this time, we will send the final plans once we have worked through any ESC comments with DEMLR.
