Source of the Upset/Spill/Bypass (Location or Treatment Unit): manhole between secondary clarifiers and
contact basin

Cause or Reason for the Upset/Spill/Bypass: over 3.5 inches of rain in 12 hours caused EQ to hit overflow
pipe pushing our flow over 3 MGD

Describe the Repairs Made or Actions Taken: Berms were created out of earth and gravel to try and control
the flow and divert it from river. Once bypass was under control, lime was spread over affected area. The
area will be regraded and graveled tomorrow after everything dries a bit. Upstream and downstream fecal
samples were taken and we will have the results of that in morning.

Action Taken to Contain Spill, Clean Up and Remediate the Site (if applicable): Berms were created using
earth and gravel as event started to try and control flow and divert it away from river. Affected area was
covered in lime the next morning. Area will be regraded and graveled tomorrow.

Action Taken or Proposed to be Taken to Prevent Occurrences: The public works department works
diligently trying to find and replace old infrastructure to prevent I&I. We have a plan in place at the WWTP to
prevent these events but yesterday’s storm was unique and was not the usual storms we see.

Additional Comments About the Event: This rain event was unique, and we were able to learn from this to
help with future events.
