REQUEST FOR MORE INFORMATION
Dear Mr. Danieley:
On February 14, 2006, the Division of Water Quality (DWQ) issued a 401 Water Quality Certification to
impact to impact 0.72 acre of wetland and 1,7701inear feet (ft2) of Zone 2 Neuse River basin protected
riparian buffers to construct the proposed runway extension. In order to meet Condition 9 of the 401
Certification for this project, a stormwater management plan was submitted to the DWQ on September 1,
2006. The DWQ has determined that your stormwater management plan was incomplete and/or provided
inaccurate information as discussed below.
Additional Information Requested:
1. On the first page of the Plan Sheets section, there are two drainage basins named "Drainage Basin
2." Please correct this error.
On page T-901-2 of the Specifications section, fertilizer specifications should be amended to state
that fertilizer will be applied at the time of seeding and afterward only as needed to maintain the
health of the vegetation in the grass filter strips, grass swales and dry detention basins. Because this
is a nutrient sensitive watershed, it is important to minimize the export of nutrients from the
stormwater management practices. Research at NC State University has shown that BMPs adjacent
to impervious areas typically receive an adequate amount of nutrients in stormwater runoff to
maintain the health of the vegetation.
3. In the Worksheets & Computations section, only two worksheets were included, one for a dry
detention basin and the other for a grassed swale. Please add a worksheet for the remaining three
dry detention basins as well as a worksheet for each of the grassed swales included in the
stormwater plan. The worksheet forms are available on the DWQ Web site at:
http://h2o.enr.state.nc.usi nctivetlands/re gcert.htrn] .
The DWQ will require the above additional information to finalize review of the stormwater management
plan for the subject property. Please provide the following information so that we may continue to review
