FACILITY SUMMARY
Maury Sanitary Land District operates a municipal wastewater treatment plant for an estimated 1,400
residents. The Maury Sanitary Land District WWTP is a minor facility(flow< 1 MGD)with a design
capacity and permitted wastewater discharge of 0.225 MGD. The original NPDES permit for this facility
was issued in July 1985. This facility utilizes the following treatment components:
• Influent pump station
• Standby power
• Mechanical screening
• Dual grit chamber
• Oxidation ditch
• Dual clarifiers
• Gas chlorination and dechlorination system

RENEWAL SUMMARY
This renewal contains the following changes:
• Added a footnote about Total Residual Chlorine(TRC) for the table in Part I.A. (1)
• Added a reopener condition for all Neuse River discharge permits in Part I.A. (4.).
• Updated electronic data submission requirements in Part I. A. (5).
• Washington Regional Office staff approved the draft permit.
COMPLIANCE HISTORY
Maury Sanitary Land District WWTP has had no enforcement since 2013. The facility has been issued one
NOD for an Ammonia Nitrogen limit violation since the permit was originally issued in February 2019.
Most recent inspection(September 2019) showed the facility to be in compliance.
COMMENTS ON DRAFT PERMIT
Jeffrey Talbott(Operator Certification Program)noted that NCO061492 is classified as a WW-2 facility in
BIMS, and Backup ORC Julian Jones (Cert#8032) currently holds an"invalid"status as an operator.
Per 15A NCAC 08G .0201 —Responsibility of System Owners to Designate Certified Operators:
Owners of classified water pollution control systems shall designate operators certified by the Commission
of the same type and grade as the classification for the system and for each classification shall:
1) designate one ORC who possesses a valid certificate of the type and grade at least equivalent to the
type and grade of the system;
2) designate one or more Back-up ORC(s)who possesses a valid certificate of the type of the system
and no more than one grade less than the grade of the system,with the exception of no Back-up
ORC is required for systems whose minimum visitation requirements are twice per year
