Facility Description:The International Paper Company-Charlotte Container Plant is located at 5419 Hovis Road on
approximately 13.2 acres of property. Corrugated boxes are manufactured at the International Paper Company-Charlotte
Container Plant.
File Review/History: Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS)previously inspected the facility on 9/30/2
016 and the report was issued as satisfactory.
Inspection Summary: During the Inspection,the International Paper Company Charlotte Container Plant was observed
to be in compliance with the City of Charlotte Stormwater Pollution Control Ordinance. Please refer to the report for
comments and recommendations.
Site Inspection Deficiency Comments
Stormwater system (catch basins, Satisfactory Stormwater flows through the site via sheet flow to a series of
inlets, outfalls, etc.) catch basins and two drainage channels which discharge
stormwater directly offsite.The drainage channels receive
runoff from the surrounding offsite properties.The physical
location of where stormwater discharges offsite was observed
to be different than the designated outfall locations in the
SWPPP's Detailed Site Map. Reference the'Detailed Site
Map'section of this report for recommendations.
Erosion issues Satisfactory No stormwater erosion issues were observed.

Illicit discharges/connections Satisfactory No illicit discharges or connections were observed onsite
during the inspection.
Aboveground storage tank(s)(ASTs) Satisfactory One 275-gallon used oil tote and several 25-gallon drums of
and any associated venting and/or hydraulic oil were observed to be kept on spill pallets in the
dispenser(s)—list tank size(s)and liquid storage room. Two 275-gallon totes of wastewater
contents treatment chemicals were observed to be stored in the
wastewater treatment system room. Two approximately 5,000
-gallon water tanks were observed indoors for the wastewater
treatment system. No stormwater pollution issues were
observed.

Vehicle/equipment area(s)-fueling, Satisfactory Per facility staff, no vehicle/equipment fueling,washing, or
maintenance,washing, storage, etc. maintenance occurs onsite. Hydraulic oil is used for
production machinery indoors. Trailers for shipping are stored
in the outdoor paved areas. No stormwater pollution issues
were observed.
Oil/water separator and/or Satisfactory The facility has a wastewater treatment system which
pretreatment collects process water and recycles the wastewater back to
the manufacturing operation. No stormwater pollution issues
were observed.
Waste storage/disposal area(s)- Satisfactory One general waste compactor, one open top scrap metal
open tops, waste containers, scrap container, and one open top filter cake waste container were
metal bins, etc. observed to be kept outdoors in covered areas. Sealed totes
awaiting disposal were observed to be kept outdoors. No
stormwater pollution issues were observed.

were observed indoors. No stormwater pollution issues were
observed.
Indoor processing area(s) Satisfactory Corrugated cardboard is manufactured indoors. No
stormwater pollution issues were observed.
Floor drains Satisfactory Floor drains in the facility lead to the wastewater treatment
system. No stormwater pollution issues were observed.

facility.
