4. Project Description and History
4a. Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this application: *
Bridge 9.80 Carolina Coastal Railway runs over Pentego Creek primarily along cultivated land: non -grow crops, hay and pasture land, and other cropland, rotation or permanent pasture.
The west and east ends of the bridge are surrounded by cultivated land, unmanaged herbaceous Cover, and broadleaf deciduous forest land. South of the project is low density detached
residential dwellings.

Perform necessary repairs to maintain the bridge in operable condition without load restrictions.
4i. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used: *
The bridge superstructure consists of rolled steel beams. One of the beams is heavily corroded over the end support and requires repair. In lieu of replacing the entire beam, steel patch
plates will be bolted on either side of the beam web to restore the capacity. Steel plates will be fabricated in a shop and delivered to the site. The contractor will drill holes in the existing
beam web using the new material as a template and install the patch plates using high strength bolts. All work will be performed from scaffolding hung from the bridge deck.
A hi -rail boom truck will be used to install/deliver material from the deck of the bridge. Site access will be from the railroad R.O.W. No direct or indirect impacts are anticipated. No earth
disturbance activities will take place.
