This inspection was conducted to determine if the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General Permit no. NCG550000. Jeff Giezen (owner) was present and assisted in the inspection. Overall, the system was well-maintained. It is recommended to check the septic tank solids level annually, and if at any time solids are greater than 33% of the liquid depth in any compartment the septic tank should be pumped. Has the permittee submitted a new application? Is the facility as described in the permit? # Are there any special conditions for the permit? Is access to the plant site restricted to the general public? Is the inspector granted access to all areas for inspection? Comment: Operations & Maintenance Yes No NA NE Is the plant generally clean with acceptable housekeeping? Does the facility analyze process control parameters, for ex: MLSS, MCRT, Settleable Solids, pH, DO, Sludge Judge, and other that are applicable? The property around the treatment units was well-maintained.Comment: Septic Tank Yes No NA NE (If pumps are used) Is an audible and visual alarm operational? Is septic tank pumped on a schedule? Are pumps or syphons operating properly? Are high and low water alarms operating properly? The system is completely gravity fed. On March 21, 2023, Asheville Septic & Well completed an inspection on the septic system. The report indicated that the tank is approximately 1,250 gallons and that the tank condition was acceptable. It also indicated that the solids in the tank were less than 33% so it was not pumped. Comment: Sand Filters (Low rate)Yes No NA NE (If pumps are used) Is an audible and visible alarm Present and operational? Is the distribution box level and watertight? Is sand filter free of ponding? Is the sand filter effluent re-circulated at a valid ratio? # Is the sand filter surface free of algae or excessive vegetation? # Is the sand filter effluent re-circulated at a valid ratio? (Approximately 3 to 1) There was no ponding in the area of the subsurface sand filter. The original permit application indicates that there is a primary and secondary sand filter. Comment: Disinfection-Tablet Yes No NA NE Page#3 DocuSign Envelope ID: C3D12F99-E44E-4A90-8B09-90648EBA8D70 Permit:NCG550722 Inspection Date:12/11/2023 Owner - Facility: Inspection Type: 23 Meadow Brook Drive Compliance Evaluation Disinfection-Tablet Yes No NA NE Are tablet chlorinators operational? Are the tablets the proper size and type? Number of tubes in use?2 Is the level of chlorine residual acceptable? Is the contact chamber free of growth, or sludge buildup? Is there chlorine residual prior to de-chlorination? At the time of the inspection, tablets were in both tubes. Only one tube needs to be used, and a few tablets can be added at a time - the entire tube does not need to be filled up. Make sure to keep an eye on the tablets and add more as needed. Comment: De-chlorination Yes No NA NE Type of system ?Tablet Is the feed ratio proportional to chlorine amount (1 to 1)? Is storage appropriate for cylinders? # Is de-chlorination substance stored away from chlorine containers? Comment: Are the tablets the proper size and type? Are tablet de-chlorinators operational? Number of tubes in use?2 At the time of the inspection, two tubes were in use. One of the tubes had tablets that were old and clumped together. It is recommended to clean out these old tablets. Only one tube needs to be used, and a few tablets can be added at a time - the entire tube does not need to be filled up. Make sure to keep an eye on the tablets and add more as needed. Comment: Effluent Pipe Yes No NA NE Is right of way to the outfall properly maintained? Are the receiving water free of foam other than trace amounts and other debris? If effluent (diffuser pipes are required) are they operating properly? Comment: Effluent Sampling Yes No NA NE Is composite sampling flow proportional? Is sample collected below all treatment units? Is proper volume collected? Is the facility sampling performed as required by the permit (frequency, sampling type representative)? At the time of the inspection, the system was not discharging. Annual effluent sampling has not been required because the system has not been discharging; however, please continue to check the effluent pipe and sample if the system ever discharges, per General Permit NCG550000, section C.
