Director Preston Curtis 8200 East Nash Street Spring Hope, NC 27882 Mr. Curtis, NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality December 8, 2023 Subject: Compliance Evaluation Inspection Permit # WQ0001122 Facility: 8200 East Nash Street Nash County On December 4, 2023, Jim Westcott from the Raleigh Regional Office visited your Single- family residence wastewater treatment and spray irrigation system to evaluate compliance with the subject permit. The assistance of Mr. Curtis at the time of inspection was appreciated. The facility is permitted for the operation 900 gallon per minute (GPM) wastewater treatment and closed loop recycle facility consisting of a 2.15 million gallon (MG) settling lagoon with recycle of wastewater back into the manufacturing facility; and all associated piping, valves, controls, and appurtenances with no discharge of wastes to surface waters. The permit, which was issued March 25, 2019, is effective through January 31, 2025. Treatment system Operation: The wastewater treatment system shall be effectively maintained and always operated so there is no discharge to surface waters, nor any contravention of groundwater or surface water standards. At the time of inspection, the permittee gave a comprehensive tour of the facility. The treatment system lagoon is currently not in service and has been offline since 2002. The discharge lines from the lagoon have been removed. The lagoon freeboard was within the required + 2 ft. at the time of inspection. 2. Proper Operation and Maintenance: At the time of inspection, the facility perimeter fencing was secured. The facility has three monitoring wells on site although sampling had been suspended when the original facility was removed from operation in 2002a The Permittee is required to notify the division in writing prior to future operations to ensure a startup inspection is conducted. Sampling of monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 are required to be sampled within three months prior to resuming closed -loop recycle operations and each November annually thereafter should the facility be in service. Please continue to periodically inspect and evaluate the wastewater spray irrigation system components are properly maintained and operating as designed. Maintain all associated operational records onsite for a period of five years as required by the subject permit.
