IV. ADDITIONAL REGIONAL STAFF REVIEW ITEMS
The purpose of this Staff Report is for the Permit Renewal of WQ0006085, completed by Tyler Benson on
March 29, 2023. Please find attached as a part of this review the following items:
Item 1: NDMR Trend Graph (CA) September 2020 thru December 2022
Item 2: NDAR 12-Month Calculated Chart (December 2020 thru December 2022)
Item 3: Compliance Evaluation Inspection Report — Site Visit April 2022
• The deficiencies noted within the Report Summary are still being addressed per ORC
communication on March 28, 2023.
o The vegetation observed along the lagoon walls has been maintained with continued
maintenance scheduled
o The freeboard gauges are planned to be reinstalled as required
o The SBR unit experiencing issues has had a gearbox and decanter motor replaced. The final
part (decanter actuator) was ordered on March 6, 2023. ORC expects it to be back online
and operational going into Peak season.

Inspection Summary:
A compliance evaluation inspection was conducted at the Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Facility, Permit No
W00006085. Mr. Jeffrey Leonard (ORC) was present during the inspection and very knowledgeable of the system. Mr
Leonard's time and assistance is very appreciated during this inspection.
During the inspection, Mr. Leonard noted that one of the SBR units is unoperable at this time. This is due to parts of this
unit being utilized to fix issues with the other SBR units. These parts, such as the airlines, decanter motor, and other items
mentioned by the ORC, needs to be replaced so it is operational.
In addition to the above, the following observations need to be addressed in the near -future:
- Lagoon gauges need to be installed in lagoons/storage ponds as specified in the permit
- Vegetation was observed along the inside of the dike walls and needs to be removed
