The sampling plan as proposed looks appropriate and should yield a substantial amount of data to analyze. Please be
sure to collect samples at the outfalls on the same day as other water samples where possible so that a direct
comparison may be made. We will look forward to seeing the data.
Note that the Dec 6, 2023, AO Smith letter appears to contain errors in the units for Table 1 for the first three
entrees. Also, the data for August 2023 for samples in the referenced table does not match the data in the eDMR
system for that month (I did not check the other data as it is not in eDMR). Please double check the data.

Thank you for your time last week to review the AO Smith property and potential sources of Zinc and Copper. Attached
is the Tier III Response Letter and the Sampling Investigation Plan that AO Smith will be starting. I believe Tier III requires
NCDEQ to sign off on the plan, so please let us know if anything further is needed. We will get started with scheduling
the sampling as soon as we have your agreement.
