Mr. Eplin,
Attached are the original and revised design calculations for the storage volume of basin SB-5,the basin
associated with Outfall SDO-003 (see Attachment 5 and Figure 2 of the previously submitted action plan). The
minimum storage volume required for the drainage area to SB-5 is 15,354 cubic feet. The original volume provided
in SB-5 (at the elevation of the primary outlet)was 68,148 cubic feet. The extra foot of rock below the skimmer in
SB-5 will effectively reduce the volume of the basin by 8,954.2 cubic feet, resulting in an effective storage volume
of 59,193.8 cubic feet. The effective storage volume of SB-5 will still exceed the required minimum storage volume
for the drainage area following the proposed modification.
Thankyou,

Subject:Action Plan submitted for TSS at outfall SDO-003
NC DEQ has reviewed the "Corrective Action Plan for Total Suspended Solids at Outfall SDO-003"for the Cleveland
County Landfill Facility. Upon review DEQ needs additional information.
The skimmer design calculations were provided; however, the basin design was not provided. DEQ is generally
supportive of the proposed plan for adding an extra foot of rock below the skimmer to keep it out of the collected
sediment. However, this means that the basin would never fully drain, thus the effective volume of the basin would be
reduced. Can you provide information on basin design showing that it will achieve the required design volume with the
reduction caused by this modification?
