Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary) Your wastewater treatment system discharges treated effluent to an unnamed tributary of the Haw River, which is classified as Water Supply (WS) V, nutrient sensitive water (NSW) and is located in the Cape Fear River Basin. Class WS-V waters are protected as water supplies which are generally upstream and draining to Class WS-IV waters or waters used by industry to supply their employees with drinking water or as waters formerly used as water supply. These waters are also protected for Class C uses. NSW waters are those needing additional nutrient management due to being subject to excessive growths of microscopic or macroscopic vegetation. Your annual permit fee of $60 for 2023 is currently overdue. It was due to the Division on 11/03/2023 on invoice 2023PR009469. Please remit payment using the original invoice as soon as possible. Mr. Boone noted that, to the best of your knowledge, the septic tank was pumped approximately 3 years ago. You became the owner of the home about 1.5 years ago. Please remember the tank should be pumped at minimum once every three to five years, depending on how many people live in the home. Mr. Boone also noted that you are using wastewater grade chlorine, however, the chlorinator could not be opened for evaluation at the time of the inspection. Mr. Boone also noted that you have not yet had the discharge tested by a NC certified laboratory as required by the permit. Please note that this is required at least once per year. Having the water tested indicates to us the condition of your treatment system and how well it is treating the wastewater before it is discharged to the receiving stream. Finally, Mr. Boone noted that the effluent pipe could not be located at the time of the inspection. The effluent pipe must be found in order to take a sample of the effluent. Steps should be taken to locate the effluent pipe and keep it accessible at all times in the future.
