(SEI) visited the Blue Ridge Tissue site located at 1427 Yadkin River Road in Patterson, North Carolina, to collect groundwater samples from monitoring wells MW-1, MW-3, MW-4, MW-6, MW-7, and MW-8. Monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-6 were dry, therefore, not sampled. The depth to groundwater in the remaining monitoring wells ranged from 6.19 feet in MW-4 to 20.85 feet in MW-3. Refer to Table 1 for all monitoring well groundwater depths and Figure 1 for all monitoring well locations. All groundwater samples, except for MW-2 and MW-6, were collected using a peristaltic pump connected to a Horiba U52-2 water quality meter with a flow-through-cell to collect groundwater parameters (temperature, pH, specific conductivity, dissolved oxygen, ORP, and turbidity). The groundwater samples were submitted on ice to Pace Analytical for the analysis of EPA Method 6200B, 8-RCRA Metals (Method 200.7), pH, ammonia, TKN, sulfate, nitrogen, nitrite, and nitrate. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-1 detected concentrations of total iron and total manganese above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. Both concentrations were higher than the July 2023 event. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-3 detected concentrations of ammonia, total barium, total iron, and total manganese above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The metals concentrations were lower than the July 2023 event. Tetrachloroethene was detected for the first time in MW-3, however, the concentration was just below the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-4 detected concentrations of total iron and total manganese above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The concentration of total iron was lower and total manganese was higher than the July 2023 event. The laboratory analysis of gr oundwater sample MW-7 did not detect any concentrations exceeding the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. Singleton Environmental, Inc. Singleton Environmental, Inc. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-8 did not detect any concentrations exceeding the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The analytical results are shown in Table 2 and Table 3. The laboratory data sheets are also attached. During the April 2017 groundwater sampling event, AECOM reported a possible sheen on the groundwater in monitoring well MW-4. During the November 2023 event a sheen was not observed; however, VOC samples were collected at all monitoring wells that were sampled. With the exception of MW-3, all of the sampled monitoring well samples at the site were non-detect for VOCs during the November 2023 event. A concentration of tetrachloroethene detected in MW-3 was below the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. Singleton Environmental, Inc. recommends sampling the monitoring wells again in March 2024 for the same compounds to continue tracking the groundwater concentrations and groundwater levels at the site. It is also recommended that MW-3 is also sampled using EPA Method 6200B to track the tetrachloroethene concentration. If you have any questions, you can reach me at (828) 508-4510. ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. TNTC - Too Numerous To Count J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL - Adjusted Method Detection Limit. PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit. RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix. S - Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is a combined concentration. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values. LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP - Sample Duplicate RPD - Relative Percent Difference NC - Not Calculable. SG - Silica Gel - Clean-Up U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected. Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether. A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA Method 8260. N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for each analyte is a combined concentration. Reported results are not rounded until the final step prior to reporting. Therefore, calculated parameters that are typically reported as "Total" may vary slightly from the sum of the reported component parameters. Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes. TNI - The NELAC Institute.
