(1) Footnote 1 of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit No. NC0005363 [effective 11/1/2018]; we are submitting this written information on the December 11, 2023, discharge from Outfall 001 to the Lumber River. This written information is provided within ten (10) days of the discharge: • On December 6, 2022; the Weatherspoon site made verbal and email notification of plans to exercise the Outfall 001 sluice gate and pipe isolation valve to the Fayetteville Regional Office, NPDES Permitting Unit, and NCWRC (Ms. Brena Jones). This maintenance activity will result in a discharge from the cooling pond to the Lumber River. • At 8:00 AM on December 11, 2023; NPDES Outfall 001 was opened and started to discharge to the Lumber River. • At 12:10 PM on December 11, 2023; verbal notification within 24-hours after discharge event was made to NC DWR-FRO. A voicemail was recorded. • At 12:22 PM on December 11, 2023; verbal notification within 24-hours after discharge event was made to Ms. Brena Jones, NCWRC. A voicemail was recorded. • At 12:42 AM on December 12, 2022; verbal notification within 24-hours after discharge event was made to NC DEQ Permitting Unit. A voicemail was recorded. • At 9:30 AM on December 13, 2023; the NPDES Outfall 001 sampling was performed as required by our NPDES permit and will be reported on the monthly DMR. • At 1:00 PM on December 13, 2023; NPDES Outfall 001 was closed and ceased the discharge. • Instream monitoring of the Lumber River will be conducted upstream and downstream as required by our NPDES permit and will be reported on the monthly DMR.
