Sound of the Sea Condominiums WWTP
Non -discharge Permit No. WQ0007103
Carteret County
Dear Permittee:
The North Carolina Division of Water Resources conducted an inspection of the Sound of the Sea
Condominiums WWTP on 8/10/2023. This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in
compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in Non -discharge Permit No. WQ0007103. The findings and
comments noted during this inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report entitled
"Compliance Inspection Report".
Regarding the maintenance of HR infiltration fields: Mr. O'Mara explained that it is difficult to control vegetation in
the infiltration fields, particularly in the summer months. To facilitate maintenance, there are plans to replace gravel
with plastic media. To this end, the Permittee might propose conducting a "pilot experiment" to evaluate the
performance of the plastic media before proceeding with the total replacement of the gravel. Please provide a plan
for the proposed work to the Non -Discharge Section and cc'd the Regional Office before starting the pilot project.
There were no significant issues or findings noted during the inspection and therefore, a response to this inspection
report is not required.
