Marla, The streambank was already hardened by the existing bridge abutments so we only counted the new additional impact. The riprap benches inside the culvert were designed by the consultant to match the existing variable width of the stream. They are basically proposing to install stone up to the existing edge of water line, which varies in width. I have attached regular comments, however I have a couple questions. The amount of permanent impacts, 62’of riprap stabilization, doesn’t make sense to me. The culvert, 63’ long, has the riprap floodplain-type of bench to maintain channel width through the culvert (on one side) and extends a few feet upstream and downstream of the culvert. It seems like the impacts would be higher. The other aspect I question is the design of the riprap benches in the culvert. The bench on one side does not continue all the way through, and the resulting channel that’s proposed has a variable width. I’m curious why it was designed that way.
