THE EXISTING STRUCTURE CONSISTING OF (1)22'-7"± TIMBER PLANK DECK ON STEEL I-BEAM
SPAN AND SUPPORTED ON TIMBER CAPS / TIMBER POSTS & SILLS AND LOCATED AT THE
PROPOSED STRUCTURE SHALL BE REMOVED.
REMOVAL OF THE EXISTING BRIDGE SHALL BE PERFORMED SO AS NOT TO ALLO�y DEBRIS
TO FALL INTO THE y�ATER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE THE BRIDGE AND SUBMIT
PLANS FOR THE DEMOLITION IN ACCORDANCE y�ITH ARTICLE 402-2 OF THE STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS.
INASMUCH AS THE PAINT SYSTEM ON THE EXISTING STRUCTURAL STEEL CONTAINS LEAD,
THE CONTRACTORS ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO ARTICLE 107-1 OF THE STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS. ANY COSTS RESULTING FROM COMPLIANCE �IITH APPLICABLE STATE OR
FEDERAL REGULATIONS PRETAINING TO THE HANDLING OF MATERIALS CONTAINING LEAD
BASED PAINT SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE BID PRICE FOR 'REMOVAL OF EXISTING
STRUCTURE AT STA.13+10.00-L-".
EXCAVATE 1 FOOT BEL0�1 CULVERT AND REPLACE �yITH FOUNDATION MATERIAL IN
ACCORDANCE �ITH ARTICLE 414 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS AND THE "FOUNDATION
MATERIAL "SPECIAL PROVISIONS.
NO �IORK SHALL BE DONE ON THE CULVERT UNTIL THE AREA OF THE BOX CULVERT HAS
BEEN UNDERCUT AND UNSUITABLE MATERIAL REPLACED �IITH SUITABLE MATERIAL,
PROPERLY COMPACTED TO THE ELEVATION OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CULVERT. THE LIMITS
OF THE UNDERCUT EXCAVATION SHALL BE AT LEAST THE LIMITS OF THE BOX CULVERT
INCLUDING THE �IINGS. THE COST OF THIS �IORK SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE LUMP SUM
PRICE BID FOR "CULVERT EXCAVATION".
NO y�ORK SHALL BE DONE ON THE CULVERT AT STA.13+10-L- UNTIL THE AREA OF THE BOX
CULVERT HAS BEEN UNDERCUT TO ELEVATION 3036.80 AND UNSUITABLE MATERIAL REPLACED
�ITH SUITABLE MATERIAL.PROPERLY COMPACTED TO THE ELEVATION OF THE BOTTOM OF THE
PROPOSED CULVERT. THE LIMITS OF THIS UNDERCUT EXCAVATION SHALL BE AT LEAST THE
LIMITS OF THE BOX CULVERT INCLUDING THE �IINGSeNO SEPARATE PAYMENT �yILL BE MADE
FOR ANY TEMPORARY SHEETINGqUNDERCUT,OR UNSUITABLE MATERIAL REPLACEMENT AS

L0� FLOy� CHANNEL. NATIVE MATERIAL CONSISTS OF MATERIAL THAT IS EXCAVATED FROM
THE STREAM BED OR FLOODPLAIN AT THE PROJECT SITE DURING CONSTRUCTION. ONLY
MATERIAL EXCAVATED FROM THE STREAM BED MAY BE USED TO LINE THE L0�1 FL0�1 CHANNEL.
RIP RAP MAY BE USED TO SUPPLEMENT THE NATIVE MATERIAL IN THE HIGH FL01� PORTION
OF THE BARREL. IF RIP RAP IS USED,NATIVE MATERIAL SHALL BE PLACED ON TOP TO FILL
THE VOIDS AND PROVIDE A FLAT SURFACE FOR ANIMAL PASSAGE. NATIVE MATERIAL IS
SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY THE ENGINEER AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO PERMIT CONDITIONS.
