Project Purposa (Describe the reasfln or purpose of the praject, see instructions) The purpose of this project is to atlow for the safe passage in and out of Flattexas Inlet for both private and commercial vessels. Due to the shaaling in this area that has created a navigational hazard for boaters they are unable to pass safeEy through the area. The highly volatile envirc?nrneni does not allow for this pz'oject to 6e campEeted by the state owvned pipeline dredge, the NCDOT Frry Division attempted to dredge this area in 20i 7 but could not cottzple#e the project due to the environment of rogh waters. The United Stats Coast Guard has corrmunicated #hat because of the shallow water depth and for safety measures they° ili be removing the existin channel markers, creating a problem for an}rone tryinb to pass thraugh the Inlet. Once the pt'oject is completed to an adequate depth. and width for vessels the j USCG will replaee the channel markers and peovide a safe rell marked channel.
