To whom it may concern,
We, Alexander C. Bruton and Sabrina M. Bruton, purchased the property in the fall of 2013 in it's
current condition, with no intentions of continuing or completing the abandoned project of the previous
owners. During the first few months after purchase, we voluntarily contacted NCDENR and met with a
representative at the site. The representative stated we would not be held responsible for any erosion or
sedimentation problems caused by the previous owners soil disturbing activities. It was our
understanding that we were not required to transfer the project into our name. We were given some
recommendations as how to mitigate any further erosion. Following the meeting, we implemented
additional erosion control and fortified the existing measures. We have tried to maintain the measures
within our means, but due to weather, vandalism, and trespassing at the site the conditions have
deteriorated due to no fault of our own. Again, we feel we are not responsible for the previous soil
disturbing activities at the site. We have not engaged in any soil disturbing activities other than what
was required to maintain the existing erosion control plan.
That being said, we are willing to do whatever is necessary within our means to help stabilize and stop
the continued erosion issues. We are currently working with Karl Hammers of the NCDENR on this
matter. We have already implemented his recent recommendations and we are hoping to be finished
with the measures in thirty more days, work schedules and weather permitting.
