Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources NPDES Municipal Permitting Unit 1617 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1617 Subject: Request to remove TRC monitoring from the North Cary WRF NPDES Permit (NC0048879) Dear Mr. Coco: The Town of Cary respectfully requests the removal of monitoring requirements, the limit, and associated footnotes for Total Residual Chlorine from the North Cary WRF NPDES Permit (NC0048879). Chlorine addition is not listed in the permit as an authorized method for disinfection of effluent discharged to the receiving stream. Instead, Cary will continue to maintain a redundant UV disinfection system, spare parts, service support, and emergency backup generators for our existing and approved method for effluent disinfection. We appreciate the opportunity to address this matter.
