Re: 20090266 v9 — Modification Request for Individual 401 Water Quality Certification
Dear Mr. Tankard:
Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC) requests the modification of the authorized Individual 401 Water
Quality Certification for the Raw Water Intake Screen Replacement and Maintenance Dredging project,
issued on October 4, 2022. The project scope and extents have expanded due to additional sedimentation
around the intake screens.
The original certification authorized the impacts specified as impact site OW-1 in the current electronic
Pre -Construction Notification (ePCN), submitted electronically on today's date. The impacts listed for
OW-1 are unchanged from the original approval. The impacts associated with OW-2 and OW-3 are new
impacts and are the areas for which the modification is requested. Please note that OW-1 is included in
the ePCN for the purpose of requesting authorization by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under Section
404 of the Clean Water Act.
GUC appreciates your expedited review of the modification request provided in the ePCN. The
construction window for the proposed dredging is limited due to the moratorium on in -water work for the
protection of the federally endangered Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus), which begins
February 1 of each year. If any questions, concerns, comments, or other needs arise during your review
and consideration of the proposed activity, please contact me as soon as possible in order to resolve the
concern quickly and provide adequate time for the activity to be performed prior to February 1.
