That morning there was a flush tank bolt that broke, resulting in some runoff and ponding of wastewater. I was at the farm early that morning and everything was fine, my son went to the farm a short while later and found the flush tank malfunctioning. He Immediately turned the flush tank off and reported the incident. He got a load of dirt from the farm and placed it where the effluent was running off to stop any further runoff from occurring. The small amount that did runoff went directly into our spray field with minimal standing water that evaporated quickly. As per Megan's report, there were no Impacts to surface water. Since this incident occurred, we have changed the grade of bolt we use in the flush tanks to help prevent them from breaking again. We have also placed a timer on the recycle pump so that It does not run at night, and only runs during the day when someone Is around the farm. I -want to assure you that we do not take this Incident lightly. In over 30 years In the hog industry, we have never had a violation prior to this. We pride ourselves on being good stewards and good neighbors. Being environmentally sound and having a good working relationship with DEQ Is of the utmost importance to us. We will do everything in our power to make sure this does not happen again. I appreciate your time and consideration in this matter. Sincerely, DO, KZ r Douglas Kim Gray
