Lake Wylie water supply watershed protection boundary request
Dear Mr. Hatton:
The Division of Energy,Mineral and Land Resources(DEMLR)reviewed and approved the
proposed revisions to the Lake Wylie (WS-IV PA)water supply watershed protection boundary
received by our office on October 16,2023. The maps and explanation describing the inclusion of four
parcels annexed to the City since 2015 document the revised boundary.
DEMLR approves these boundary changes in accordance with North Carolina General Statute 143-214.5
and North Carolina Administrative Code 15A NCAC .0100, .0200, .0620-.0624. DEMLR understands
that the City of Belmont Watershed Review Board and City Council have already approved the revised
boundary. For future potential boundary change requests, 15A NCAC 2B .0623 (4)requires that all
revisions to the water supply watershed boundaries must be approved by the Environmental Management
Commission(EMC)or its designee prior to adoption by the local government.
We appreciate City of Belmont's efforts to help protect the vital public water supplies of this state. Please
contact me at paul.clarkgncdenr.gov or(919) 707-3642 should you need assistance.
Sincerely,
Paul Clark
