Eastway Drive at Shamrock Drive Intersection Improvements (STIP U-5803), City of
Charlotte, North Carolina
Dear Ms Chapman,
The City of Charlotte is proposing to convert the existing skewed intersection at Eastway Drive
and Shamrock Drive to a quadrant displaced left turn design. Changes to this intersection are
needed to improve traffic flow. The general limits of the project are shown on Figure 1.
Along Eastway Drive, a 12-foot shared-use path and an 8-foot grass planting strip are planned.
Shamrock Drive will be widened to include a 6-foot sidewalk, 7-foot buffered bike lane (3-foot
buffer and 4-foot bike lane), and an 8-foot grass planting strip. Both roadway corridors are
constrained by existing buildings and utilities. Due to these constraints, some variation in the
desired typical section is expected. Off-site detours are not anticipated for this project.
Please review the project as described above and provide any information, guidance, permits, or
approvals that may be required. This is a City of Charlotte project with project funding from the
North Carolina Department of Transportation and has been designated North Carolina State
Transportation Improvement Project (STIP) U-5803.
