DESCRIPTION OF COLLECTION SYSTEM OR TREATMENT PROCESS:
The Beulaville Wastewater Treatment Plant is located at 362 Lyman Road, Beulaville, North
Carolina 28518. The Beulaville Sewer Collection system consists of seven (7) pumping stations
which pump into a 0.520 million gallons per day (MGD) wastewater treatment plant utilizing a
fine bubble extended air tertiary treatment process. The wastewater flows through a mechanical
bar screen/grit chamber to an influent pumping station with three (3) each 800 gallons per minute
(gpm) submersible solids handling pumps. The influent pump station pumps incoming wastewater
to a flow splitter box, which directs equal flow to four (4) fine bubble aeration basins. Flow that
would exceed the capability of the aeration basins is routed to a flow equalization basin and wet
well with two (2) each 800 gpm submersible pumps. Four (4) secondary clarifiers follow the fine
bubbler units. Four (4) sand filters follow the clarifiers. Chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) is fed into
the filters and at the dual chlorine contact chamber. Disinfection via two (2) chorine contact
chambers is provided prior to post -aeration. Dual chemical feed pumps provide dechlorination via
calcium thiosulfate at two (2) post aeration chambers. Final discharge goes to Persimmon Branch.
Sludge is aerobically digested with final disposal via land application.
