Olive Fecal Exceedance Butterball, LLC, Mt. Olive (Butterball) has entered into a Tier One Required Response/Action for its stormwater(SW) as required by COC No. NCG060108 for General Permit No. NCG060000. The exceedance for fecal was measured to be 42,000 colonies/100 mg/I on 8-28. A follow up sample was conducted on 9-23 to confirm there was no error, as recommended by the lab. The results from the second report collected at the downspout of Engine room two were at 18,000 colonies/ 100ml and >60,000 colonies from a stormwater collection point located in the RTE parking lot. A stormwater management inspection was conducted by plant personnel over several days and followed up by Butterball Corporate on 10-4-23. Possible causes have been identified, which primarily point to the need to clean roof gutters and a portion of the roof that is dead ended that also flows to the same roof gutter of concern. Further, the offal (offal 1) has sediment that has built up in the culvert and could be a contributing factor. Butterball will clean the roof areas and gutter this weekend, Oct. 7t" and 8t". Offal 1 will be cleaned and reworked at a future date.
