Bales of OCC are fed into a blender called a pulper where water and paper are mixed to form a pulp. Common contaminants are removed from the fiber. The plastic waste is recycled. The pulp is processed through refiners to develop the necessary strength. It is then sent to a paper machine to be formed into a sheet of paper. The paper is wound onto a reel and then cut into rolls which are stacked before being shipped out. Steam at the facility is provided by an on -site boiler. The facility also operates an on -site wastewater treatment plant. The waste treatment begins at the clarifier feed tank. From here, the wastewater takes one of two paths. A portion of the flow is routed to the Hydrocal system by way of the South Basin. The remaining flow is routed to the waste treatment plant. The first step in treatment is the Primary Clarifier where the dense solids settle to the bottom. The particles that settle to the floor of the clarifier are called "sludge." Sludge is pumped to the sludge tanks. The clarified water from the Primary Clarifier is piped to the "activated sludge" treatment process in the Aeration Basin. The treated activated sludge -is routed to the Secondary Clarifier. The waste sludge is removed in the Secondary Clarifier and is sent to the sludge tanks or returned to the Aeration Basin to increase the microorganism population. The sludge in the sludge tanks is pumped to a belt dewatering press. The clarified water from the Secondary Clarifier is returned to the mill to be reused. The sand filter basin is used in the filtration of incoming fresh water.
