Sullins Governor Director MiZERIM Eric Weatherly, PE County Engineer County of Currituck P.O. Box 38 Currituck, NC 27929-0038 Subject: Newtown Sanitary District Flow Reduction Request Currituck County Dear Mr. Weatberlya On July 6, 2009, the Pretreatment, Emergency Response and Collection Systems (PERCS) Unit received a flow reduction request for the Newtown Sanitary District connection to the Moyock Commons WWTP (WQOO I 5053)1. Additional information was received on July 16. The request was for 7,700 gpd for (40) 3- bedroom (64 gallons per bedroom). Flow readings for the Newtown discharge are only taken once per week. Therefore, I was unable to determine the hic, hest flow month and calculate an average of the three highest to days. Instead the highest flow week was determined to be week 8 with an average of 8,540 gpd (weeks 16, 19, 22 and 35 were eliminated from consideration). Data from the Moyock Commons WWTP was evaluated to determine its highest flow month, which was July 2008. The 3 highest flow days for that month were averaged to give 11,069 gpd and compared to the monthly average of 8,814 gpd to determine a peaking factor of 1.25. That peaking factor was then applied to the New -town flow (8,540 gpd * 1.25) to give 10,675 gpd or 89 gallons per day per bedroom. Regardless of the adjusted des;cm dan- wastewater flow rate at no time shall the wastewater flows exceed the effluent limits defined in the NPDES pe it for the treatment facility or exceed the capacity of the sewers downstream of any new sewer extension or service l connection s L If you have any questions or comments regarding this matter, please contact me at (919) 807-6383, email [Deborah.Gore@ncdenr.gov] .
