The NC Natural Heritage Program GIS layer was used to determine the presence of federally listed species No rare species are known to occur within the site. Several rare plant and animal species are known to occur within one mile of the site, including the red - cockaded woodpecker and roughleaf loosestrife. The RCW sighting is historic. The project site does have some pond pine in its canopy, but most of the site has a fairly thick shrub layer and would not be suitable habitat for RCWs Wetlands within the site are densely vegetated and would not provide appropriate habitat for loosestrife.
