Facility Description: E-Metals is located at 230 Crompton Street on approximately 3.0 acres of property in Charlotte.
The facility provides scrap metal recycling services.
File Review/History: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services (CMSWS)last inspected the facility on 2/25/2020
and the report was issued as satisfactory. CMSWS also conducted stormwater monitoring at E-Metals on January 11,
2012 and October 15, 2012.The facility implemented corrective actions in response to the results.
Inspection Summary: E-Metals was observed to be in compliance with the City of Charlotte Storm Water Pollution
Control Ordinance. Please refer to the report for comments and recommendations from the inspection.
Site Inspection Deficiency Comments
Stormwater system (catch basins, Satisfactory Stormwater flows through the site via sheet flow and
inlets, outfalls, etc.) discharges from one outfall on the southeast side of the
property. No stormwater pollution issues were observed.

unloading area.
Vehicle/equipment area(s)-fueling, Satisfactory Small equipment maintenance is conducted in the indoor
maintenance,washing, storage, etc. sorting bay. Equipment fueling is conducted at a covered fuel
station. Equipment is stored both indoors and outdoors.
Facility staff indicated that no washing occurs onsite. No
stormwater pollution issues were observed.

Waste storage/disposal area(s)- Recommendation Five roll-off dumpsters were observed outdoors being used for
open tops,waste containers, scrap sorting scrap metal. One general waste dumpster was
metal bins, etc. observed in the indoor sorting bay. A hopper full of rain water
and containing used propane tanks was observed outdoors
and uncovered. CMSWS recommends covering all waste
containers stored outdoors. Update: photos were sent to
CMSWS from the facility on 9/21/23, showing that the hopper
had been cleaned and moved indoors.

Indoor material storage area(s) Satisfactory Non-ferrous metal, batteries, and various non-metal items
were observed in the indoor sorting bay. No stormwater
pollution issues were observed.

indoor sorting bay. No stormwater pollution issues were
observed.
