HomeMy WebLinkAboutNCGNE1638_Emails_20230927 Thad Thanks for the quick response. Attached is the picture with the compactor box removed post clean up as requested. The box itself is currently out for repair. The current compactor is an older style and the box is unique to this compactor, so the vendor does not have a replacement box. Attached is an email from the vendor commenting on the timing of the repair. I've also elevated the concern with our environmental group, who placed a call with the vendor on our behalf in an attempt to escalate the issue and improve the response time. Both emails are attached. I was waiting for your visit to review the SWPPP changes. From my notes,we are working on the following. Please let me know if I missed anything. • Update Annual Training for Team Members. Our Environmental group sent us a training document that complies with your request. We have made facility specific changes and are in the process of training team members. • All open tops that were on site have been removed. A new open top is on site that is being used temporarily for trash in lieu of having the box repaired. This open top was inspected and no holes are present. • A root cause corrective action will be completed for non-reportable quantities using the compactor and spill near the metal dumpster as examples. The examples will be placed in the SWPPP binder that you review during your last visit as evidence of continuous improvement in our SWPPP. • Maintenance monthly inspection has been updated and team members who perform the inspection are in the process of being trained on how to properly conduct the inspection. • Maintenance dumpster will be removed by tomorrow. • SOP's either updated or written for tarp installation on metal dumpster, transporting non- hazardous waste, transporting hazardous waste, and spill response procedures • Spill near metal dumpster was cleaned up and properly disposed • Permit and COC have been placed in the SWPPP binder • Annual audit updated with current locations I will email the above updates on Thursday. I need photos from underneath that container. I also requested the container be replaced for one that doesn't have holes and leaks. In addition to that I have requested that the SWPPP be updated with the additional information I requested at the site visit. Please provide those photos and updates for this no exposure approval. Thad, I am sending you this email as William Dani, PTVE Safety Engineer, is on vacation this week. We met during your last site review. As requested during our meeting on Friday, September 15', attached are the photos of the trash compactor clean up. We isolated the leaks to the hydraulic cylinders that push the ram. Our maintenance team replaced the seals to the cylinders on Sunday, September 171"and subsequently cleaned the area. I have also included pictures as evidence of proper disposal of the material used to clean up under the compactor. Disposed as hazardous waste (pending determination). • Before picture (Before Picture Compactor Ground.jpg) • After picture (Ground After Clean Up.jpg) • After picture of ram hydraulic cylinders (Compactor Hydraulic Cylinder Picture—After.jpg) • After picture of Hydraulic unit (Compactor Hydraulic Unit.jpg) • Evidence of proper disposal (Disposal Evidence—Ljpg& Disposal Evidence—2.jpg) As previously stated above, William is on vacation this week. You wanted to come back out on Friday, September 29t". I would prefer that William be here for your next visit as it's a good learning experience for William. If you want to come on Friday, we will be ready and it's my no means an issue for us,just a preference. William put in place the tools to maintain the facility inspections, training, and documentation. Please confirm your receipt of this email. Regards,
