Mr. Bodnar,
Good morning. I hope you had a relaxing weekend.
texted back and forth with Rod Hoell on Friday concerning your request
for a change of the dock addition from 3' to 2'. After going out to the
dock this weekend, we would like to see if it is possible to stay with the 3'
addition. We measured and had a few concerns with the spacing
between the new piles and the outside of the dock.
The prevailing wind is from the south which really pushes a boat
against the dock. Also on an incoming tide, the current comes at an angle
also pushing against the dock. When these 2 forces align, it is difficult to
even get our small skiff off the dock. Docking can also be tricky. The 3'
addition will give us more space between the 2 new piles and the dock's
edge. This additional space between the pile and edge of the dock will
allow us to safely dock and undock our boat and hopefully one day a
sailboat.
We have also seen large swells develop in the channel during a strong
southwest to west wind while the tide is falling. We have had to move
our skiff to a protected slip. Hopefully a larger boat will not be impacted
by these swells but again the larger the dock space between the piles and
the outer edge of the dock would help eliminate any possible contact
with the piles or crush points.

My wife and I apologize for any inconvenience and hope you can help us
keep our dock as safe as possible as we approach our retirement years.
