Maria, I've attached a map of the facility including the main transfer line (orange) and the stormwater catch basin (green) in the parking lot, the outfall along the road and the ditch. We recovered approximately 800-1,000 gallons of process water from the ditch the day of the spill. The following day, after the first rain event we observed standing cloudy water in the ditch and out of an abundance of caution removed that as well. It was far less than the first load, if I had to estimate I'd say 200-400 gallons the second day. I hope this helps. i Katie Stroud Complex Environmental Manager Monroe, NC UT Tyson Foods 233 S Secrest Ave, Monroe, NC 28112 Tyson 0: (704)296-4959 C: (407) 501-2211 F: (497) 757-7022 (Okatelyn.stroud@tyson.com From: Schutte, Maria <maria.schutte@deg.nc.gov> Sent: Monday, September 11, 2023 7:18 PM To: Stroud, Katie<Katelyn.Stroud@tyson.com> Cc: Pitner, Andrew<andrew.pitner@deg.nc.gov>; Baxter, Doug<Doug.Baxter@tvson.com>; Edwards,Jonathan <jonathan.edwards@tyson.com> Subject: [EXTERNAL] - RE: [External] FW:Tyson Monroe- Process Water Spill CAUTION:This email came from outside the company. Do not click on links or open attachments unless you can confirm the sender and you know the contents are safe Hello Katie, I need more information to understand the location and path of spill, the desired (designed)flow of both your process wastewater and stormwater(with location of inlet/outlet). Can you send a map showing these items? Also, what was the total volume of liquid pumped and removed and have you seen any additional emergence of process wastewater with continued rain events. We were able to isolate the lift station and had a vacuum truck to remove/clean the effected stormwater ditch. The repair is being made today. Per our general industrial permit NCG060023, I notified DEQvia the emergency response number, release report number 20230906-7, however I wanted to notify DEQ directly as well.
