We had 2 sediment losses on the U2579B (WS Beltway) project. The first loss occurred at site 6, and was minor. We
plan to remove it. An estimated +/- 2 cy of silt deposited when a skimmer overflowed and cut around rock check.
Pictures 94 and 95 show this site.
The other loss occurred at sta 19+50 DR-5 Lt. Its just south of W. Mountain St. This is not a permitted site, but there is a
stream beyond the project that the sediment flowed into. At the site, there were several basins in per the
plan. However, there was ditch cut that carried some of the flow around the basin. The water from the ditch flowed
through a rock check before leaving the project. The volume of water carried by the ditch was too large to send through
the rock check, and should have probably been directed to a basin. The basins were also discharging a large volume of
water given the intensity of the rain event. Since the basin and the ditch outletted adjacent to one another, a large
volume of water sent the sediment a good distance. I’ve directed them to proceed with removing the sediment from
the channel to a point where a cattle fence stopped the majority of the sediment.
Let me know if you want to meet me out there. I could meet you early afternoon tomorrow or anytime on
Thursday. Picture 97 shows the sediment off-site before it reaches the channel. I can provide a couple more pictures
tomorrow if needed.
