Site Inspection (DOT)Routine
Site inspection was conducted on September 11, 2023 by Kevin Mitchell with the Asheville Regional Office. Kevin
Barnett, Reid Whitehead,and Brian Luther were present during the inspection. The following are items that need
attention:
- Station L 204+00 LT - SDOs need maintenance. Recommend additional cover on slopes above JS. JS is headcutting
and DEO offered suggestions for repair.
- Station L 203+00 RT - Recommend additional cover on slope. JS is headcutting above 60" culvert. DEO offered
suggestions for repair.
- Station L 159+00 LT - Energy dissipator structure is piping and needs repair. Recommend removing fill, wrapping
structure with fabric, and adding mix of large and fine material to fill voids. I have attached a typical in the email.
- Station L 149+00 - 150+00 - Recommend using a camera to investigate potential culvert failure under NC 69. This
was discussed during the inspection on 6.12.23 after multiple sediment losses into the JS. Coir fiber logs need to be
removed from the stream after culvert is stabilized.
Continue to meet NPDES cover requirements.
