Hannah, Stephen, and Tom,
Jon and I reviewed the subject project today, including the areas which had sediment losses from
the Idalia rain event. Please see the attached photos.
Area 1
Y30 STA 22+40 LT
The sediment was removed at the outlet of the pipe and from the pond. See photos 1 and 2.
Area 2
Culvert 13 inlet
L1 STA 712+50 RT
The sediment was removed form the “inside” of the wing wall and the area was stabilized with new
coir fiber mat. There is still sand in the stream channel which the contractor still plans to remove.
We will need to follow-up on that removal. See photos 3 and 4.
Also, at our “ride through” meeting next week, we would like to discuss some scour that was noted
on the inlet side of the channel (on the other side from where the sediment had accumulated).
Thank you,
Anneliese

Subject: R-3300B Hampstead Bypass sediment losses
Hannah, Stephen, and Tom,
Ben Meyer has reported the following losses at 2 areas on the subject project from the Idalia rain
event. Please see the attached photos. He reported that the rain gauge at the office was
overtopped (>5”) and from the MPE website the project received over 5” of rain in 24 hours.
Area 1
Y30 STA 22+40 LT less than 2cy of material from 36” crossline pipe. The pond is at the corner of SR6
and Y30 (NC210). The sediment deposited in the pond is from the outlet of the pipe (photos 1 and
2).
Area 2
Culvert 13 inlet
L1 STA 712+50 RT approximately 1cy of material (photos 3,4, and 5)
We will update you if there are other areas reported.
Thank you,
Anneliese
