SUBJECT: Start of Study, Improvements to N.C. 5 (Beulah Hill Road), TIP No. R-5892
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division 8 is proposing corridor
improvements on N.C. 5 (Beulah Hill Road) to add turn lanes, signal improvements, and other
operational improvements from Trotter Drive/Blake Boulevard to N.C. 211 in Pinehurst in Moore
County, NC (Figures 1 and 2). The project would extend 2.8 miles and include the following
features.
• Three-lane (2-lane with 2-way left center turn lane) curb and gutter section, and 5-foot
sidewalks, from Trotter Drive to Morganton Road.
• Two-lane shoulder section from Morganton Road to McKenzie Road/Cherokee Road.
• Three-lane (2-lane with 2-way left center turn lane) curb and gutter section, with 5-foot
sidewalks, from McKenzie Road/Cherokee Road to N.C. 211.
• Includes traditional intersection improvements at Linden Road/McLean Road and Barrett
Road/McCaskill Road.
• Roundabout option will be evaluated at Linden Road/McLean Road and McCaskill
Road/Barrett Road.
Any information you might have that would be helpful in evaluating potential environmental
impacts of the project, including recommendations of alternates to be studied, would be
appreciated.
NCDOT staff or their consultants may be contacting you to request project-specific information.
Your input will be used in the development of environmental documentation prepared pursuant to
the State Environmental Policy Act. If applicable, please identify any permits or approvals which
may be required by your organization.
