The North Carolina Department of Transportation is scheduled to r�place B�idge #20 ��.
Watauga County with a new aluminum box cul��rt at the same loca�ic�r�. T'h� ��.�sting
structure �s a 26' long timber bridge �vith steel I-bean�s. The propos�d alum�nu�. box
culvert is 22'9" wide x�0' long x 5'4" High. �ulvert slope w111 be 1.7%0. Thr�e �affles
will be inserted into the culvert to maintain chann�l width (inlet, outlet �nd one interi�r) e
1Vlitigation will be provided through EEP (6Q'). 1�n off-site detour is pr�posed. Strean�.
impacts are tabulated below.
Stream Impacts:
The replacement of the existing bridge �vv�t� the proposed �ew c�lver� v��ll �r�qulr�

was r�viewed for the presence of threatened �.nd endangered species. �c�� iurtl�s are
present in the county but nane were observed at th� proj �ct �acation. �VVe d� n�t
anticipate any tree cutting associated vvith this project. Th� NL�B is l�st�d as a pr�t��ted
species in this county but no bat activit� vvas abserved in the bridg�. '�e ��u1d
r�ecommend a No Effect or NLTAA �all on this proj ect.
Cultural resource compliance work �ias been c�m�leted. No archae�logical res�ur�e� or
historic properties fall with the APE of this proj ect (see attached�.
The proj ect impacts are not significant in natur� and should not ��rr�o�e or degrad�
e�lsting water quality uses. Stormwater wi11 b� routed thra�:gh grass �� rc�ck li��d
ditche�, depending an the ditch line slope. Totalland disturbar�ee will be less than 1 a�ree
