Re: Notice of Violation
Chapel Ridge CS, Chatham County
Permit No. WQCSD0267
NOV-2023-DV-0312
Dear Mr. Vinson:
Aqua North Carolina, Inc. (Aqua) offers the following response to the above-referenced Notice of
Violation, which was issued for pump station equipment failure occurred 07/13/2023, cited in the July 2023
subject report.
Aqua’s Response:
The investigation into this sanitary sewer overflow concluded that the electrical breakers for both lift
station pumps had tripped on the day of the event which left both lift station pumps inoperable. Both
electrical breakers were unable to be simply reset upon emergency response and were replaced with
new breakers same day. The electrical panel was inspected, and no other issues could be found nor
any issues that would have led to the breakers being tripped. Additional oversight is being conducted
at this location to ensure electrical panel performance. To this date, since the replacement of the failed
breakers, this lift station remains in good operation. Aqua also hired a third-party environmental
contractor to fully mitigate the unnamed tributary that received the 700 gallon overflow. This work was
completed on the same day as the overflow and no environmental impacts were associated with this
incident.
