3. DUCTILE IRON PIPE WITH MECHANICAL JOINT ENDS MAY BE SUBSTITUTED WHERE SEPARATION
DISTANCES BETWEEN THE WATER LINE AND SANITARY SEWER LINE, FORCE MAIN OR STORM SEWER
CANNOT BE MAINTAINED. PIPE MUST BE LAID SUCH THAT FULL SECTIONS OF PIPE ARE CENTERED ON THE
POINT OF CROSSING AND EXTEND A DISTANCE OF 10' ON EACH SIDE OF THE POINT OF CROSSING. CONTACT
THE ENGINEER FOR DIRECTION WHERE WATER LINE IS REQUIRED TO PASS BELOW SEWER FORCE MAIN OR
SANITARY SEWER LINES.
4. PAVEMENT PATCHING AND RESURFACING MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN FIVE DAYS AFTER COMPLETION
OF TRENCHING ACTIVITIES. SMALL PATCH AREAS CAN BE MAINTAINED WITH TEMPORARY PAVEMENT
PATCHING OR CABC STONE UNTIL PERMANENT PATCHING IS COMPLETE.
5. FENCE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT: AREAS REQUIRING FENCE REMOVAL SHALL BE PERFORMED BY
THE CONTRACTOR ONLY TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED FOR SAFE CONSTRUCTION OF THE WATER LINE. THE
FENCE SHALL BE CAREFULLY REMOVED AND SAFELY STORED FOR REPLACEMENT AFTER CONSTRUCTION IS
COMPLETE. THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROPER REALIGNMENT OF THE RESTORED
FENCE LINE. ANY MISALIGNMENT OR DAMAGE TO THE RESTORED FENCE SHALL BE REPAIRED AT THE
CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO NOTE ANY DAMAGE TO THE
FENCE PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION WITH ADEQUATE PHOTOGRAPHS OR OTHER EVIDENCE AND SHALL
IDENTIFY THE SAME TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
6. WHERE EXISTING SHOULDER GRADE IS ABOVE EDGE OF PAVEMENT ELEVATION, TOP OF WATER LINE
SHALL BE INSTALLED A MINIMUM OF 36" BELOW TOP OF PAVEMENT TO ASSURE MINIMUM COVER
REQUIREMENT IN THE EVENT OF FUTURE GRADING AND /OR PAVING ACTIVITIES.
7. THE CONTRACTOR WILL STRING IN ADVANCE NO MORE THAN THE AMOUNT OF PIPE AND MATERIAL THAT
CAN BE INSTALLED WITHIN TWO WEEKS UNLESS APPROVED OTHERWISE BY THE ENGINEER.
8. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SAW CUT EXISTING ASPHALT AND /OR CONCRETE SURFACES PRIOR TO
REMOVAL, UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. DISTURBED PAVEMENT IN ROADWAYS SHALL
BE TEMPORARILY OR PERMANENTLY REPAIRED /REPLACED THE SAME DAY THEY ARE DISTURBED.
9. THE MAXIMUM OPEN JOINT DEFLECTION FOR ALIGNMENT AND GRADE FOR 12 -INCH DUCTILE IRON WATER
MAINS SHALL BE FIVE (5) DEGREES. MAXIMUM PVC PIPE DEFLECTION SHALL BE 150' RADIUS FOR 6 -INCH AND
200' RADIUS FOR 8 -INCH WATER LINES. ALL PIPE DEFLECTIONS SHALL CONFORM TO MANUFACTURER'S
RECOMMENDATIONS.
10. ACCESS TO PRIVATE PROPERTY FROM THE PROJECT AREA SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.
11. TRAFFIC CONTROL IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES WITHIN 15' OF THE EDGE OF ANY
ROADWAY. TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES, PRACTICES, AND PROCEDURES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES (MUTCD) MILLENNIUM EDITION BY THE FEDERAL
HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION.
12. THE ENGINEER SHALL INSPECT AND APPROVE ALL CONCRETE BLOCKING PRIOR TO BACKFILLING THE
LINE.
13. CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP AND MAINTAIN A SET OF PLANS WITH ACCURATE LOCATIONS,
MEASUREMENTS AND OTHER DATA NOT READILY AVAILABLE FROM ABOVE GROUNDS ASBUILT EFFORTS. A
COPY OF THESE PLANS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE OWNER AT THE COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT.
14. CONTRACTOR TO REPAIR ALL CONCRETE AND ASPHALT DRIVEWAYS ALONG PROJECT WITHIN TWO (2)
WEEKS OF DISTURBANCE. ALL DRIVES (CONCRETE, ASPHALT, GRAVEL, SOIL) SHALL BE PREPARED WITH
SIMILAR MATERIALS.
15. CONTRACTOR SHALL GRADE DITCH LINES TO DRAIN BETWEEN DRIVEWAY PIPES.
16. ALL DISTURBED DITCHLINES SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH EROSION CONTROL MATTING.
17. CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE ANY VEGETATION, SHRUB, BUSH, OR TREE THAT IS DISTURBED OR
DESTROYED DURING CONSTRUCTION TO A CONDITION EQUIVALENT OR BETTER THAN IT PREVIOUSLY
EXISTED, WHETHER THE LANDSCAPING ITEM IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY OR INSIDE THE NCDOT
RIGHT -OF -WAY.
18, ALL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED AND MAINTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MOST CURRENT STANDARDS OF THE LAND QUALITY SECTION OF NCDENR.
19. STABILIZATION STONE IS REQUIRED UNDER PIPING WHEN CONDITIONS WARRANT OR AS REQUIRED BY
THE ENGINEER.
20. AS A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT, ALL GRADED AREAS NOT UNDER PAVEMENT AND WITHIN THE
RIGHT -OF -WAY AND /OR EASEMENTS SHALL BE PREPARED, FERTILIZED AND LIMED, SEEDED, AND MULCHED
IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION.
21. THE CONTRACTOR MUST HAVE A COPY OF THE APPROVED NCDOT TWO -PARTY ENCROACHMENT

22. ALL BACKFILL SHALL BE NON - PLASTIC IN NATURE, FREE FROM ROOTS, VEGETATIVE MATTER, WASTE,

1. SCHEDULE A PRECONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE ON -SITE WITH THE
EROSION CONTROL INSPECTOR FROM THE MOORESVILLE REGIONAL
OFFICE OF THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND
NATURAL RESOURCES (NCDENR, 704- 663 - 1699), AND THE ENGINEER'S
REPRESENTATIVE.
2. BEFORE INITIATION OF CONSTRUCTION, INSTALL PERIMETER EROSION
CONTROL MEASURES SHOWN ON THE PLANS INCLUDING SILT FENCE
AND STONE OUTLETS AT CREEK CROSSINGS ALONG WITH ANY
REQUESTED BY THE NCDENR INSPECTOR RESULTING FROM THE
PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING, CLEARING AREAS ONLY AS NEEDED TO

Mulch and anchoring materials must not be allowed to wash downslope where
they can clog drainage devices.
Maintenance
Inspect and repair mulch frequently. Refertilize in late winter according to soil

regularly to a height of 2 -4 inches.
