Project Initiation for the Proposed Operational Improvements for NC 55, Project U-5118AE,
Town of Apex, Wake County
The Town of Apex, in coordination with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is
starting the project development, environmental, and engineering studies for the proposed
operational improvements for NC 55, including Apex Peakway from NC 55 to Olive Chapel Road. The
proposed project includes new turn lanes at the three intersections within the study area.
Attached for your reference are several maps for the subject project. We would appreciate any
information you might have that would be helpful in evaluating potential environmental impacts of the
project. If applicable, please identify any permits or approvals that may be required by your
agency/department. An agency scoping meeting is not anticipated for this project. A Programmatic
Categorical Exclusion is anticipated to be prepared in compliance with the National Environmental
Policy Act.
